How to Get More Power From Your Harley Davidson Motorcycle

How to get more power?

Visions of Tim Taylor, the TOOLMAN come to every time I hear the phrase "more power" and I'm sure he would approve additional power to your Harley Davidson Spirit. Harley Davidson are not among the most powerful motorcycles on the planet, but they respond very well to a few minor changes.

The generally accepted method to gain more power, is to implement a Stage-1 Upgrade on your Harley Davidson. A Stage1 Upgrade consists of a few bolt on parts, improve the breathing of the engine and more air flow through the engine. Translated more air, the more power, everything you can do to get the engine to produce more air flow, should translate into more horsepower and more torque.

Upgrading Stage 1 consists of the following bolt on performance upgrades:

Free-flowing exhaust pipes. (Full set or slip on mufflers)
Upgrade Air Purifier
Carb Rejet or ECM, depending on the Remapwhether it is Fuel Injected or not.
Ignition upgrade, if applicable.

Harley Davidson stock exhaust does not flow so well to the power tubes used by companies like Vance and Hines, D & D, Santee, and much more available to be compared. Pipes offer several other advantages. Aftermarket pipes in general "look" better than equities pipes and they sure are not much better than factory pipes SOUND. So really you have more flow, more sound and better looks from a number ofTubes.

The piece that the restrictive, air flow, the stock Harley Davidson air cleaner. It is simply awful, and that's where you see the greatest profit. Is not better than the one, or one has more power, because on most stock or near stock bikes torment they will all perform just about the same. I would suggest that you think that a K & N air filter element bears within itself, because they receive the best and longest flow from my experience. Iwould recommend the Arlen Ness Big Sucker or something similar.

Assign new or Rejet depends on whether the bike is carb'd or fuel injected. Older bikes require a rejet simple and newer bicycles must have a new fuel map flashed into the PCM. The jet kit with instructions is easy and has carried out very easily. The reflash can be done easily enough through the dealer, or you can add a fuel control of Vance and Hines or something like the Power Commander unitThat your fuel curve for you.

This may seem difficult for an upgrade, but in reality it is an average mechanic could be done in an afternoon with nothing more than basic hand tools in most cases. Your bike will look better, sound better and better, and that the money is well spent if you ask me.
